"You will earn the respect of all men if you begin by earning the respect of yourself" - Musonius Rufus
I notice that the statement does not say to simply respect oneself but "earn" that respect. This is to be done through study and consistency of action. For anyone to earn my respect I must see in them virtue and steadfastness. I must know that it not simply an act and the virtues I see are through to the bone. I go to bed tonight for the last time. Tomorrow is nothing more than a preference on my part. If I recieve another chance, another day I will dedicate it to earning my own respect.
